Project Background

Improving Energy Efficiency Standards

COLLABORATION

Between Sustainable Tompkins and Cornell Undergraduate Engaged Research Programs

OVERVIEW

Energy costs of living comfortably in an area with relatively long cold seasons are a serious concern for many Tompkins County residents, including tenants. Student researchers from Cornell will primarily gather both quantitative and qualitative data from surveying and interviewing tenants in Tompkins County.  Data gathered by the students will strengthen Sustainable Tompkins’ advocacy for energy efficiency policies, such as the county's Home Energy Rating and Disclosure (HERD) project (underway), that will help protect tenants from high home energy bills.
